What to Do When a Pipe Starts Leaking
Control the water first. Avoid taping over the leak as a long-term fix — it will not repair the failed pipe, fitting, or valve.
Close the fixture shut-off valve if the leak is under a sink, behind a toilet, or near an appliance
If the leak is larger or you cannot find a local shutoff, close the main water valve
